By contrast, a typical marketing and advertising agency, while offering a cadre of related services, will primarily help you design and implement advertising campaigns (usually, print ads). Today's ad agencies largely provide the same service they did thirty years ago, despite growing evidence that mass media advertising is providing diminishing returns. The best agencies will be able to help you choose advertising alternatives that target the "best" demographics, but few will be able to provide-or are even interested in providing-measurement of ad campaign results. And virtually none start with the notion of what it takes to produce an Amazing Customer Experience.

A typical Web developer will build a Web site, per your direction, and/or as permitted by their "pick-a-template" software. While some of these agencies can provide decent design, the majority are owned and run by technicians (programmers) who are in love with the technology and who can rarely explain the options in terms that you care about or can understand. What they virtually never do is have any accountability or sense of ownership of how well the Web site works at improving your business.
